Philosophy

We exclusively make socially-responsible investments.
We only invest in ethical businesses. We recognize that this is a subjective measure, but we do not follow businesses generating material earnings from tobacco, weapons, gambling, death, usurious lending or pornography. We do not have and will never have a product that invests in these industries.

We concentrate our assets into a limited number of investments.
As Mark Twain once said: “Put all your eggs in one basket and then watch that basket.” We favor a concentrated approach and focus on owning a small set of companies that we thoroughly understand. At the same time, we remain cautious and pick securities that have moderate correlation.

We prefer simplicity and inaction.
The wider economy functions perfectly well without exotic complicated derivative products and so can we. If a market environment is devoid of simple publicly-listed equity opportunities, we hold higher levels of cash and await more active times. We do not defend our fees by fostering overactive trading strategies. We prefer inaction over indefensible actions.

Our portfolio looks nothing like the benchmark.
We have always avoided and will always avoid investing in companies operating in natural resources industries. We also very rarely invest in banks and life insurance companies. We therefore cannot help you if you need exposure to these sectors.
